New Quarter, New Goals for Winter Strength Squad

Posted February 3, 2018

Winter Strength Squad kicked off on Jan 8. with nine different groups taking to the squad room to experience our unique, goal-oriented 12-week group-training program, many folks returning for their routine squad experience, while several folks are joining us for their first quarter.

Rachel F. has been a Squad member since winter of 2016 and returned every season since to keep her training on track thanks to the accountability.

“My main goal is just to get stronger, improve my form, and increase lifts,” Rachel said. “I love learning all the accessory exercises we do since it teaches me all sorts of things I can do on my own in the gym.”

Lifting as a part of Strength Squad has further encouraged Rachel to attempt weightlifting competitions and in the fall of this year, she wants to attempt SkyRise Chicago – a 2,109 step climb up Chicago’s Willis (formerly Sears) Tower – in her native city.

For Strength Squad Trainer Sean Manseau, he’s currently focused on coaching new squad members the essential fundamentals of staple lifts such as the squat, deadlift, and bench press.

“It’s largely a matter of bringing people who are new to the program up to speed on the basic mechanics of the lifts,” said Sean. “I establish a starting point for their development within coming months. Then as each week passes, we add more and more weight to develop strength.”

One of those new Squad Members is Paul B., who trains with Ron Moodey on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

“I love Squad because I definitely needed the support to correct my form,” said Paul. “The group mentality is awesome because we’re all learning as a group so it builds this great community.”

Winter Strength Squad runs until March 31 with Spring Strength Squad beginning in early April. Those interested in learning more about Spring Strength Squad should send us an email or stop by the front desk during your next visit.
